Many electricians are aware that code changes happen, but are they aware of how to navigate through the NEC to interpret and apply them? This workshop focuses on how electricians will incorporate the NEC and it’s code changes into their day-to-day work.

Introduction .5 hour

Table of Contents, Article 90, NEC history, & basic navigation methods. Current Code vs Updated Codes, example: Article 100 reformatting

Current and Upcoming Code Changes 1 hour

Current and upcoming changes to the NEC are introduced. These changes will be re-discussed in more detail as they come up throughout the class.

Based on the Science 1 hour

Article 210 Continuous Duty, Article 310 Temperature Adjustment, Article 220 Demand Factors, Article 310 Derations, Article 240 Overcurrent Protection, Article 310 Conductors, Articles 400-800 Utilization Equipment, Article 250 Grounded Conductors, Bonding Jumper System, Equipment Grounding Conductor; Current Code vs Updated Codes, example: Article 310 additions.

Navigating the NEC 1.5 hour

Methods of navigating including Table of Content, Key Word Index, Parallel Numbering System, Internal Content Reference, Annex; Article 100 Electrical slang versus correct Terminology; Current Code vs Updated Codes, example: Article 445 additions.

Know the Math 2 hours

Ohm’s Law; Standard & Optional Methods; Demand Factors for Appliances, Ranges, Dryers, Cooking; Loads for Schools, Restaurants, Farm; Current Code vs Updated Codes, example: Article 220 change in calculations.

Making Systems Safe 2 hours

Article 250 Grounding Electrodes, Grounding Electrode Conductors, Grounded Conductors, Bonding Jumpers, Equipment Grounding Conductors; Chapter 9 Voltage Drop, Resistance, Induction; Article 310 Temperature Adjustment; Article 250 Impedance; NFPA70E, OSHA 29, CFR 1910; Ladders, lift equipment, personnel protection equipment, safety briefings, inspections of tools and equipment, worker compensation; business organization and note-taking; Current Code vs Updated Codes, example: Article 242 addition.
