Georgia electrical license renewal is due by June 30 of even-numbered years, and you need 4 hours of continuing education (CE) a year to renew. CE means approved classes you take to keep a license active. The rule covers electrical contractor licenses, the only electrical license the state issues. Since January 1, 2026, you log your hours in CE Broker, the online CE tracker the board uses.

Georgia electrical continuing education: how many hours?
Four hours each year of your license. A Georgia license runs 2 years, so that's 8 hours per renewal.
- New licensees: licensed 1 year or less at your first renewal? No CE is due. Licensed more than 1 year but under 2? You need 4 hours first.
- Credit: 1 hour for each hour of instruction. Courses should run at least 1 hour.
- Waivers: the division may waive CE for a documented hardship, disability or illness.
Need Georgia CE hours? JCR's CE class is $230 for 8 hours in Raleigh, Asheville, Mooresville (Charlotte area) or live on Zoom, with a bonus 8-hour online video course. JCR CE is approved in 20+ states, Georgia included.
What counts for Georgia electrical contractor continuing education?
A course must relate to electrical contracting and come from one of these sources under Rule 121-4-.05:
- An accredited college or university
- A post-secondary school under the Georgia Board of Technical and Adult Education, or the matching agency of another state or local government
- A trade, technical or professional group
- A public utility
- An electrical equipment maker (classes that promote its own products don't count)
The board asks providers to cover subjects like codes and standards, business law, insurance and finance, safety and OSHA, materials and installation methods, and electrical theory.
How do you report CE in Georgia?
Georgia is self-reporting. Providers don't send your hours to the board. You do it.
- Open a free CE Broker account. A basic account costs nothing.
- Upload each certificate as you earn it. It must show the provider, course title, place and date, hours and proof you finished.
- Keep your records 5 years. The board audits at random and gives no credit for a class without a certificate.
How to renew a Georgia electrical contractor license
- Finish your hours first. CE must be done before you apply.
- Log them in CE Broker. Missing hours raise your odds of an audit.
- Renew online in the GOALS portal between April and June 30 of an even-numbered year. The board emails a reminder first.
- Missed it? Late renewal runs July 1 to 31. Fees are on the board fee schedule.
