2027 classes, 8 hours and $230 each: Bonding & Grounding (new in January), NEC Navigation & Use, and VFD/PLC (variable frequency drives and programmable logic controllers).

North Carolina CE rules
  • Limited, Intermediate, Unlimited and SP-SFD qualifiers need 8 hours a year. Other special restricted licenses need 4.
  • At least half of your hours must be classroom hours. Live Zoom counts as classroom. Recorded video does not.
  • Extra hours can carry into your next two renewal periods.
  • A course taken before you qualified by exam does not count toward renewal.
  • NC reporting is free. Add the North Carolina State Reporting item ($0) to your cart with your class.

Common questions

Does live Zoom CE count as classroom credit in NC?

Yes. Live Zoom classes count as classroom hours. Recorded courses count as non-classroom hours, up to 4 of your 8.

Can I finish all 8 NC hours in one day?

Yes. Each in-person class covers all 8 hours in one day. Zoom classes run as two 4-hour sessions on back-to-back days, and you must attend both.

Does the two-day exam prep workshop count as CE?

Yes. Licensed NC electricians earn 16 classroom CEUs for the two-day exam prep workshop.

Do JCR classes count outside North Carolina?

JCR CE is approved in 20+ states. JCR CE classes are approved by Virginia DPOR. Open “CE in your state” below to see each state's rules and reporting details.
