Mississippi Electrical Continuing Education (2026): 2 Hours a Year

Mississippi electrical continuing education requirements - JCR Productions

Mississippi electrical continuing education is 2 hours a year for residential licenses, including Residential Electrical. Continuing education (CE) means approved classes you take to keep a license active. The Mississippi State Board of Contractors (MSBOC) requires each qualifying party, the person who took the exams for the company, to finish those 2 hours before each yearly renewal. The board's CE rules cover residential licenses only.

Who needs Mississippi electrical continuing education?

MSBOC licenses contracting companies. Each company names a qualifying party, an owner, officer or managing employee who takes the exams.

  • Residential Electrical license: the qualifying party needs 2 hours a year.
  • Master Electrical (commercial) license: the board's CE rules don't apply to commercial licenses.
  • Inactive residential license: no CE while inactive. You need 2 hours before going active again.
  • Board members: serving on the board or its residential committee meets the 2 hours.

Need CE hours? JCR's CE class runs $230 for 8 hours in Raleigh, Asheville, Mooresville (Charlotte area) or live on Zoom, plus a bonus 8-hour online video course. JCR CE is approved in 20+ states.

What counts toward the 2 hours?

  • Approved courses only, taught by a board-approved provider or instructor. Search the board's approved provider list.
  • The whole course. Credit comes only when you finish it.
  • Taken while licensed. Classes from before you held an MSBOC license don't count.
  • No carryover. Extra hours don't roll into the next license year.

Providers send the board a roster with your name, the last 4 digits of your Social Security number and the name on your license. You get a certificate within 30 days.

How to renew a Mississippi residential electrical license

  1. Watch your email. MSBOC emails renewal notices about 60 days before your license expires.
  2. Finish 2 CE hours before you renew. Without them, the board won't renew the license.
  3. Renew online with payment and every required document uploaded, or mail the residential renewal form.
  4. Late? You can renew up to 180 days after expiration. After that, you file a new application.
