Delaware electrical license renewal is due by June 30 of even-numbered years, so the next deadline is June 30, 2028. Master and limited electricians need 10 hours of approved continuing education (CE) each 2-year period. Journeypersons, residential and apprentice electricians need 5 hours, all on the National Electrical Code (NEC). The Board of Electrical Examiners sets these in Rule 8.0.
| Quick facts | Delaware electrician CE |
|---|---|
| Master and limited | 10 hours each period, including master special and limited special. From your second renewal on, 5 of the 10 must relate to the NEC. |
| Journeyperson, residential, apprentice | 5 NEC hours each period. A journeyperson is an electrician licensed as qualified and skilled to do electrical work. |
| Deadline | CE and renewal by June 30, 2028. Licenses not renewed expire July 1. |
| Approved courses | Only courses on the Board's 2026–2029 approved CE list count |
| Online allowed | The rule sets no limit on online hours. The course just has to be approved. |
| Reporting | You attest in DELPROS, the state's licensing portal, and upload certificates only if audited |
| JCR approval | Four JCR courses are on the 2026–2029 approved list |
Delaware electrical license renewal: how many CE hours?
It depends on your license and how long you've held it:
| License | First renewal | Every renewal after |
|---|---|---|
| Master, master special, limited, limited special | First renewal: no CE if licensed under 1 year. 5 hours if licensed 1 to 2 years. | Later renewals: 10 hours, with 5 related to the NEC |
| Journeyperson, residential, apprentice | First renewal: no CE if licensed under 1 year. 2 hours if licensed 1 to 2 years. | Later renewals: 5 NEC hours |
- No carryover. Extra hours don't roll into the next period.
- One credit per course. Retaking a course in the same period earns nothing more.
- Apprentice training in a Board-approved program counts toward CE that period.
Need Delaware CE hours? JCR CE classes are $230 for 8 hours, in Raleigh, Asheville, Mooresville (Charlotte area) or live on Zoom, plus a bonus 8-hour online video course. JCR CE is approved in 20+ states. Delaware's 2026–2029 list approves JCR's Nav & Use, Bonding & Grounding, and VFD & PLC classes at 8 hours each.
Add Delaware State Reporting ($25) and sign JCR's Delaware roster with your license number.
How do you renew a Delaware electrical license?
- Finish your CE by June 30 of the renewal year.
- Watch your email. The Division sends a renewal notice a few months before your license expires.
- Renew in DELPROS by June 30. Attest to your CE and pay the fee by credit card. Masters and limited electricians also attest to $300,000 of liability insurance.
The fee is shown when you renew. Renew late, up to 1 year after June 30, and you pay a late fee of 50% of the renewal fee. You can't work until the renewal goes through, and every late renewal is audited. After 1 year the license ends and you must apply again as a new applicant.
What counts as Delaware electrical continuing education?
Only Board-approved courses. Course approvals run in 3-year blocks, so check the current 2026–2029 list, which shows each course and its approved hours. Two more ways to earn credit:
- Teaching: a licensed master can count NEC course prep and teaching, at the course's approved hours.
- Board members in good standing can claim 5 non-NEC hours each period.
Delaware's list doesn't label which courses count as NEC-related.
