New Hampshire’s Journeyman and Master Electrician exams are open book, given by Prov, and scored at 70% to pass. Prov offers a 2017 NEC version and a 2020 NEC version. JCR prepares you for the 2020 version.

The 2020 Journeyman exam has 110 questions in 4.5 hours. The 2020 Master exam has 126 questions in 5 hours. Some of those questions are administrative, drawn from RSA 319-C and the Electricians’ Board rules. Check that your exam authorization is for the 2020 NEC version before you book.

Which NEC is on the New Hampshire electrician exam?

Prov has a 2017 version and a 2020 version. JCR’s course is for the 2020 version. Confirm yours on your authorization.

Is the NH journeyman exam open book?

Yes. The 2020 version lists the 2020 NEC, the American Electrician’s Handbook (17th edition), Ugly’s (2020) and the state laws and rules.

Are tabs allowed?

Permanent tabs are allowed. So is highlighting or underlining in pen. Moveable tabs, Post-its and handwritten notes are not.

How many questions on the NH master electrician exam?

126 on the 2020 version, including 25 administrative questions. You get 5 hours.

What calculator can I use?

A simple 4-function calculator only.

How long should I study?

6–8 weeks, about an hour a night, is a good plan.
