The Connecticut License Process

Common questions

What is the difference between E-2 and E-1?

E-2 lets a journeyperson perform unlimited electrical work under a licensed contractor. E-1 lets the license holder offer, contract, supervise, and take responsibility for unlimited electrical work.

Does JCR include E-1 Business and Law?

No. This course prepares the electrical trade material. E-1 candidates must prepare separately for the 50-question Connecticut Business and Law exam.

Can I use the 2020 NEC?

The current PSI bulletin lists the 2020 and 2023 NEC for the E-1 and E-2 trade exams. JCR’s course uses the 2020 NEC; confirm the edition you will bring before scheduling.

Does Connecticut have reciprocity?

DCP states that Connecticut does not have electrical reciprocity. Out-of-state applicants should use the appropriate equivalent-experience process.
