Nebraska electrical continuing education is 12 contact hours each 2-year license period, with at least 6 on the National Electrical Code (NEC). A contact hour is 50 minutes of class with a Board-approved instructor. Every license expires December 31 of even-numbered years, so this cycle's hours are due by December 31, 2026. The rule is Neb. Rev. Stat. 81-2117.01, run by the Nebraska State Electrical Division.

How many hours of Nebraska electrical continuing education do you need?
It depends on how long you've held your license this cycle:
- Full 2-year cycle: 12 hours, at least 6 on the NEC.
- 1 year of the cycle: 6 hours.
- Registered apprentice: none required. Finishing CE can add 3 months per cycle toward qualifying for a license exam.
Extra NEC hours above the 6 still count toward the 12.
Need Nebraska CE hours? JCR CE classes are $230 for 8 hours, in Raleigh, Asheville, Mooresville (Charlotte area) or live on Zoom, plus a bonus 8-hour online video course. JCR CE is approved in 20+ states, including Nebraska for the full-day class in person or virtual.
Add Nebraska State Reporting ($25) so JCR reports your hours to Nebraska.
Which courses count for Nebraska CE?
- Board-approved only. The course and its instructor must be approved before the class is taught.
- Approvals end with the license period. A course approved for 2025 to 2026 is good through December 31, 2026.
- Attend 90% or more. Miss more than 10% of the class time and the instructor can't give you a certificate.
Your certificate lists your name and license number, the course title, date and place, the credit hours and the instructor's signature. Keep it. Nebraska law makes you responsible for proof of attendance.
How does Nebraska electrical license renewal work?
- Finish your 12 (or 6) hours before December 31, 2026.
- Check your reported hours in the Division's online licensing system. They should equal or beat what you owe.
- Renew online by November 30, 2026 to skip the late fee. First, register an account in the new system and link your license. A mail-in form is also available.
- Pay the fee. It's charged for each year of the 2-year period: $37.50 a year for journeymen, residential wiremen, fire alarm installers and special licenses, or $187.50 a year for electrical contractors and masters.
Miss December 31 and the license expires with no grace period. You can't do electrical work, and you'll have to apply for and pass the exam again.
