Built for the Memphis/Shelby County exam path

The City of Memphis and unincorporated Shelby County follow a local licensing path that is separate from Tennessee's state-administered LLE and CE trade exams. The published 2021 Memphis and Shelby County Joint Electrical Code adopts the 2020 NEC. For a local Master application, the code requires an ICC National Standard Master Electrician passing-score letter; the local Journeyman license is optional, and applicants who pursue it must provide the corresponding ICC National Standard Journeyman Electrician passing-score letter. In both cases, the passing score must have been achieved within the six months before the local application.

Memphis electrical exam prep FAQ

Is this the Tennessee LLE or CE exam course?

No. This is the 2020 NEC self-study bundle for the Memphis/Shelby County ICC T16 Master and T17 Journeyman paths. Tennessee's state LLE and CE trade exams use a different state-administered path and different prep product.

Can I use the same bundle for T16 or T17?

Yes. Both current ICC exams use the 2020 NEC and test the core code-navigation and calculation skills covered by this bundle. The question counts, time limits, and content weighting differ, so practice against the format of your authorized exam.

How long should I study?

A practical plan is to work through the manual and videos over four to eight weeks, then use the practice questions and mock exams to improve speed and identify weak areas.
