Shelby County TN (Memphis) Electrical Exam Prep Self-Study Bundle (2020 NEC)

$495.00
Prepare for your Memphis/Shelby County electrical licensing exam with JCR's complete 2020 NEC self-study exam prep bundle.

Prepare for the Memphis and Shelby County journeyman or master electrician exam with the same full bundle of materials used in our classroom course. Memphis/Shelby County runs its own electrician licensing program through Shelby County Code Enforcement — separate from the Tennessee state LLE — and its exams are based on the 2020 NEC, a different code edition than the state exam. This bundle is built on exactly that edition, focusing on NEC navigation, calculations, and realistic exam practice.

Candidates who fail don't fail on knowledge — they fail on finding answers in an 800-page codebook against the clock. That skill is exactly what this bundle trains.

This bundle includes the same core JCR curriculum materials used by our classroom students with a 93% pass rate:

  • 152-page JCR Exam Prep Manual: a unit-by-unit study path with a six-week schedule, video prompts, guided practice, and answer keys. It covers NEC navigation, test-taking strategy, Ohm's Law, electrical formulas, ampacity, overcurrent protection, dwelling and service calculations, grounding and bonding, boxes, raceways, conduit fill, motors, appliances, special occupancies, NFPA 72, and math review.
  • 100 study videos spanning 20+ hours: step-by-step instruction across the major exam topics, so you can follow the manual, pause, rewind, and revisit difficult calculations as often as needed.
  • 500+ realistic mock exam questions: practice on paper with the Mock Exam Booklet and online with JCR's digital mock exam app so you can build code-search speed, test your timing, and identify weak areas before exam day.
  • JCR code book tabs: permanent tabs that help you move quickly to heavily tested NEC articles, tables, and sections.

Know before you register

  • Local program, local exam: Memphis/Shelby County licenses its own journeyman and master electricians through Shelby County Code Enforcement — the Tennessee state LLE is not accepted here, and the state's exam runs on a different NEC edition. Confirm current requirements with Shelby County Code Enforcement before you register.
  • Exam provider: Memphis/Shelby County electrician exams (e.g., the Standard Master Electrician exam) are administered by ICC through Pearson VUE — the Master exam requires a score of 75 or higher to pass.
  • NASCLA option: many Tennessee exempt jurisdictions, including Memphis/Shelby County, also accept the NASCLA electrical examination for journeyman/master licensing — verify acceptance with the county before choosing your exam path.
  • Working outside Shelby County on projects under $25,000? That's the Tennessee state LLE — see our Tennessee exam prep page (2017 NEC) ->

Memphis/Shelby County Exam Prep FAQ

Quick answers before you order.

Which licenses is this bundle built for?

The Memphis/Shelby County journeyman and master electrician exams administered through ICC at Pearson VUE, which are based on the 2020 NEC. It focuses on the NEC/trade-code portion: code navigation, calculations, practice questions, mock exam work, and code book organization.

Why is this a different bundle than your Tennessee page?

Because Memphis/Shelby County is an exempt jurisdiction with its own licensing program. The Tennessee state LLE exam is based on the 2017 NEC; Memphis/Shelby County exams are based on the 2020 NEC. Studying the wrong edition means learning code sections that moved, changed, or don't exist on your exam — get the bundle that matches your test.

Does the state LLE work in Memphis?

No — Memphis/Shelby County does not accept the state Limited Licensed Electrician credential. Electricians working in Shelby County license through Shelby County Code Enforcement.

Is this the same as taking a live JCR exam prep workshop?

It uses the same core JCR curriculum materials, including the manual, video lessons, practice questions, mock exam access, and code book tabs. The live workshops add classroom instruction and direct instructor support.

How long should I study?

Most successful students study for 4-8 weeks. Start with the manual and video lessons, then use the 500+ question mock exam and digital practice tools to find weak spots and build speed before exam day.

What code book do I need?

This bundle is built around the 2020 NEC. Your exam follows the code edition named in the current candidate information bulletin, so confirm that edition and any rules for allowed references, tabs, or highlighting with Shelby County Code Enforcement before you study and again before test day.

Does this cover Tennessee Business & Law?

This Shelby County bundle is built for the local Memphis/Shelby County NEC-based journeyman/master electrical exam. It focuses on code navigation, calculations, practice questions, mock exam work, and code book organization; it is not Tennessee-specific Business & Law prep. Tennessee CE Electrical Contractor applicants typically have a separate Tennessee Business & Law exam, and Tennessee LLE candidates use a different state exam path. JCR teaches NASCLA business law concepts in courses where that is specifically included, but Shelby County students should review JCR's state requirements page and the current local requirements before ordering.
