JCR teaches NEC navigation, electrical theory, calculations, and timed practice. Candidates must separately study the current Montana Building Codes Amendments and obtain the Board-listed printreading reference.

Common questions

What is the difference between Residential and Journeyman?

Residential is limited to the residential scope defined by Montana law. Journeyman is the broader working credential. Confirm the scope before applying.

What is different about the Master exam?

The Master exam is longer, requires a 75% score, and includes major-load calculations alongside NEC and trade knowledge.

Is the NEC the only allowed reference?

No. Montana also lists its Building Codes Amendments and a specific printreading reference. Bring the complete approved set.

Can I schedule PSI before Board approval?

No. Montana approves examination eligibility first. Bring the Board admission letter and required identification to PSI.
