Hawaii’s PSI exams use a test-center-supplied 2020 NEC. JCR builds the navigation, theory, calculation, and trade skills behind the standard electrical categories; specialty candidates need additional category-specific preparation.

Common questions

Can I bring my own NEC into the Hawaii exam?

The current PSI bulletin says the testing center provides the 2020 NEC. Use your own 2020 NEC for study and speed practice, but follow PSI’s test-center instructions.

What is the difference between Journey Worker and Supervising?

A Journey Worker is licensed to perform electrical work. A Supervising Electrician may direct and supervise the performance of electrical work and also perform the work.

Does JCR cover alarm and communications specialty exams?

JCR provides a strong NEC foundation, but those specialty exams include category-specific alarm and communications subjects that require separate preparation.

Does an electrician license let me contract in Hawaii?

No. Hawaii electrician licensing and contractor licensing are separate. Confirm contractor requirements before offering electrical contracting services.
