An NC electrical license lookup is free on the NC State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors (NCBEEC) website, with no login. Its Verify License Search shows any license's class, status and expiration date. Its CE Credits Search shows your continuing education (CE) hours.

A qualifier (the law's "listed qualified individual") is the person who passed the exam and supervises the license's work. Each needs 8 CE hours a year (often called CEUs) to renew, or 4 on most special restricted licenses, which each cover one narrow type of work, like fire alarm/low voltage.
CE hours short? JCR's CE classes are $230 for 8 hours of NC classroom credit, in person or live on Zoom.
How do I do an NC electrical license lookup?
- On ncbeec.org, click Search For A License.
- Fill in at least one box, like License Number, Company Name or Last Name. For a number, type digits only (12345, not L.12345).
- Click Search. Results list Account #, Type and Owner, and flag any "License Not Active" in red.
- Click the license number for details.
Details show the license's class, status and expiration date, each qualifier, the contact address and any public enforcement cases. License numbers start with the class: L. Limited, I. Intermediate, U. Unlimited, SP.SFD single-family homes.
Record says False? One $230 JCR class gives 8 hours of NC classroom credit, in Raleigh, Asheville, Mooresville (Charlotte area) or live on Zoom. JCR's live Zoom classes count as NC classroom credit.
How do I check my CEU hours in North Carolina?

- Enter your License Number, Company Name or Last Name. Fewer boxes find more.
- Click Search, then your name in blue under Qualifier.
What do True, False and 12 / 8 mean on my CE record?
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Has CE Hours Needed for Renewal: True | You have enough CE hours on file to renew |
| Has CE Hours Needed for Renewal: False | You need more CE hours before you can renew |
| Comments | What's missing, for example: "Needs 8 additional hours, of which 4 need to be class room." |
| CE Hours Available / Required | Hours on file, then hours required each year. 12 / 8 means 12 on file, 8 required. |
At least half your hours must be classroom hours, from attending a class rather than a recorded course. So enough total hours can still show False.
Why don't my CE hours show up yet?
The sponsor (the company that ran your class) reports them within 10 days of the course. After that, ask the sponsor. Classroom vs. online rules: NC electrical CE online.
When does an NC electrical license expire?
- Term: one year from the issue date.
- Renewal opens: 60 days before expiration. The notice comes by email if one is on file, otherwise by mail.
- Due: renewal and fee, 30 days before expiration.
- Late: an unrenewed license is automatically revoked when it expires. Renewing within 12 months adds $25. After that, you need a Reactivation Application and 500 hours of primary experience (hands-on electrical installation work) from the last 12 months.
To renew online, log in, click View by your license number, then Renew Now. Print your own certificate after paying. CE rules in full: NC electrical CE requirements.
