Show the answer to question 1Hide the answer to question 1
1. C, 24 inches (NEC 210.52(C)(1))
No point along a countertop wall line can be more than 24 inches from a receptacle outlet, measured horizontally. That works out to receptacles no more than 4 feet apart, which is where the 48-inch choice comes from.
Show the answer to question 2Hide the answer to question 2
2. B, 100 amps, 3-wire (NEC 230.79(C))
A one-family dwelling's service disconnecting means must be rated at least 100 amps, 3-wire. The 60-amp minimum in 230.79(D) is for all other installations.
Show the answer to question 3Hide the answer to question 3
3. B, 20 amps (NEC 210.11(C)(3))
At least one 120-volt, 20-amp branch circuit must supply the bathroom receptacle outlets, and that circuit can have no other outlets. If it serves a single bathroom, it may also supply other equipment in that same bathroom.
Show the answer to question 4Hide the answer to question 4
4. C, 8 feet (NEC 410.10(D)(1))
The zone runs 3 feet out horizontally and 8 feet up from the top of the tub rim or shower threshold. It includes the space right over the tub. Cord-connected luminaires, chain-hung or pendant luminaires, lighting track and paddle fans can't be in it.
Show the answer to question 5Hide the answer to question 5
5. C, 23.44 amps (NEC 422.13)
The heater draws 4,500 ÷ 240 = 18.75 amps. Storage water heaters of 120 gallons or less get branch-circuit conductors and overcurrent protection sized at no less than 125% of their rating: 18.75 × 1.25 = 23.44 amps.
How to study after this practice test
- Log the lookup. Write down the article, section or table you used and how long it took to find.
- Work the calculation again. Keep the units and intermediate steps so you can find an arithmetic error.
- Use your exam’s edition. A newer installation code is not automatically the edition used for your license test.
- Cover the full outline. Repeat the set with a clean book and no tabs. JCR’s Hawaii orders ship without tabs. Check the outline for your exact electrician classification.
